Item consists of 57 printing blocks used in the printing of The Edmonton Public Schools bulletin from Sep 1958 to Feb 1961. An additional two blocks are included, one of which is a photograph of Trustee Dr. J. Andrews (1961-62); while the other appears to be Superintendent Wagner’s letterhead.

Item is memoranda and enclosures sent to Principals from the Superintendent of Schools. The memoranda were directives for the Principals, and the enclosures were passed on to all their staff. This was the primary communication vehicle between the Superintendent and the Principals.

Major G. H. Schoof

Item is a file of correspondence between Gustav (or Gustaf) H. Schoof and the Superintendent of Edmonton Public Schools. Schoof lectured to schools and other groups about his adventures as a Mounted Policeman and about temperance and outdoor living. He also donated a trophy, the Major Schoof Cup, to the district for sports competition.

Administration Files of Strathcona School District No. 216

Series reflects administrative activities of Strathcona School District No. 216. Although chiefly financial and staffing issues, opening of new schools, amalgamation with Edmonton School District No. 7, Inspector's Reports, correspondence with University of Alberta, Association of School Trustees of Alberta and Department of Education is also included. Of note is a letter from Lieutenant Governor Bulyea regarding the opening of Strathcona Collegiate Institute. Compiled by the Secretary-Treasurer, files are arranged chronologically. Correspondence of a related subject often glued together. The top document reflects the chronological date within the file but often much earlier documents are attached.

Superintendent and Associate Superintendents’ Meetings

Series consists of agenda packages for the Superintendent and Associate Superintendents’ regular committee meetings. The function of this committee was agenda planning and processing of Board reports in conjunction with the Superintendent's Executive Council (SEC) and the Agenda Planning Committee (APC). Packages contain an agenda with attachments that include reports and minutes from previous meetings. This committee is also known as SAS.

Series contains files created by the Superintendent's office documenting EPS administration. The files include correspondence, memoranda, copies of board minutes, blueprints, plans, and other material reflecting daily operations. The series covers a number of subjects including matters of curriculum, schools, associations, contract negotiations, planning, government departments, enrolments, teachers, the hiring of personnel, and school construction. Integrity of original filing system maintained.

Minute Book of Committee on School Management

Item is the minutes of Committee on School Management of Edmonton School District No. 7. The committee was also known as the Management Committee. Minutes address staffing and building issues and include complaints about Superintendent McCaig. Both Superintendents McCaig and McKee were on the Committee. Most minutes are signed by both the Secretary, W. D. Bradley, and the Chairman, S. A. G. Barnes.

Item consists of correspondence to and from the Superintendent about the Edmonton Public Schools Sight Saving Class. Descriptions of the class and students with vision problems are included. Correspondence with the CNIB is also included.

Item is a file of correspondence to and from the Superintendent regarding children in the district with physical disabilities. An Edmonton Public Schools teacher was assigned to teach these children in their homes.

Item consists of letters written by Superintendent of Schools, G. A. McKee, and Assistant Superintendent, L. B. Yule, regarding concerts put on by Edmonton Public Schools to raise money for an emergency fund. The fund was to assist school children whose needs were not met by the civic relief organization.

Swain vs. McKee et al Notebooks

Item consists of three notebooks of Pitman Shorthand. The notebooks were used by a stenographer and possibly contain correspondence dictated by the Superintendent and later used in the Swain vs. McKee et al court case.

Item consists of correspondence with the Superintendent of Schools, R.S. Sheppard. Most of the letters are requests for information from pupils residing within the boundaries of Edmonton School District No. 7.

The Edmonton Public Schools

Series consists of bulletins modeled after the publication, The Kansas City Schools, that were first issued in Jan 1949. The EPSB Annual Report 1949 refers to the new publication as a bulletin. This series begins with the second issue in Mar 1949. With the exception of 1949 and 1955, two bulletins were printed each school year, one in the fall and one in the winter. Each issue included a message from the Superintendent and information about the school district. The final bulletin was issued in Feb 1961 after which it was removed from the budget at the Board’s request.

School Based Budget : Pilot Project Files

These files were created by Alan E. Parry, System Planner, whose position reported to the Superintendent & Secretary Treasurer at the time of the pilot project. Series consists of files pertaining to the development of budget decentralizing known as School Based Budget. The files and responsibility for School Based Budget moved with Parry when he transferred to Associate Superintendent Planning & Development Services in 1979-80. By 1980-81 School Based Budget was implemented district-wide.
