Series contained teacher personnel files that were arranged by surname and by the original file number as assigned by the creator. Dates reflect the retirement or resignation date of the teachers.

Administration Files : Broadcast of Lessons

Item includes correspondence and lesson plans pertaining to the Grade VIII through XII lessons broadcast on the University of Alberta Radio Station, CKUA. Broadcasts were made when the schools were closed due to an epidemic. File was discontinued and removed from a larger series.

Administration Files : Hot Drinks in Schools

Item pertains to the supplying of hot drinks in schools. Included are cost estimates for gas ranges and utensils and a report on the sale of hot drinks at the Edmonton Technical High School for January 1933. Item also includes a requisition form from the Queen's Avenue Sight Saving Class for cocoa supplies.

Administration Files : Vacation School

Item pertains to the Vacation School, a program at Victoria High School to prepare grade XI students for supplemental examinations. Examinations were conducted by the Department of Education and the University of Alberta. The Vacation School was aimed at students who failed their June examinations but others took the summer courses as well. File includes correspondence, planning information and reports from teachers.

Administration Files : Concerts

Item pertains to student concerts held at McDougall church. The proceeds of the concerts went toward the Department of Music, the Department of Physical Training and the Children's Fund to Deal with Emergencies (Relief Fund). Included are minutes from organizational meetings, receipts, breakdown of ticket sales, programs and financial statements. The file also contains a list of the recipients of the School Chorus Awards from the Alberta Provincial Museum Festival, 1947.

Minute Book of the Committee on Buildings and Grounds

Item is the minutes of an Edmonton School District No. 7 committee. Comprised of several trustees and a secretary, the committee addressed issues such as concerns/wages of caretakers and workmen, maintenance of buildings and grounds, costs, new schools, additions to buildings, tenders, contracts, accounts, expenditures and community use of buildings and grounds. Minutes are arranged chronologically by year. Most minutes are original. Some are signed by the Secretary and the Chairman.

Cash-Book No. 1 : Edmonton Protestant Public School No.7

Item is an account book showing money coming in (cash) and going out (contra). It lists ratepayers, the amount of taxes collected, expenditures and amounts carried over. The book was maintained by the Secretary-Treasurer and each page is initialed. It is organized chronologically by year and month.

Item contains correspondence written and maintained by the Secretary-Treasurer for the Board of Trustees. C.F. Strang and St. George Jellett were the Secretary-Treasurers at this time. Included are letters to the Board of Education, teachers, school inspectors and the Imperial Bank. Subjects include the purchasing of supplies, complaints about night students, debentures received, the hiring of staff, the purchasing of a school site and teacher agreements.

Sports Annual

Item is a booklet containing reports on tournaments and sports in Edmonton Public Schools played in 1928. It also includes Edmonton High and Public School Sports Records, 1908-1928 inclusive.

List of Names of Teachers Appointed to the Various Branches of the Teaching Staff of the Board during the Year 1918

Item is a list of teachers approved for appointment to Edmonton Public Schools. The list provides the following information. The date the appointment was authorized, the class of certification held by the teacher, provisional or temporary appointment, the beginning and end dates of the appointment, the department or level of teaching to which the teacher was assigned, the salary, and whether or not the appointment was accepted.

L.Y. Cairns Vocational School Equipment Budget

Item is divided into four parts (a-d). (a) budget which lists equipment needed for each room, price of each item and total for each room. (b) memorandum that explains the list does not include music equipment, one unassigned vocational area and teaching aids such as maps and globes. It also recommends that the list of equipment be put out to tender. (c) site plan, main floor plan, and second floor plan. (d) Equipment Budget Breakdown by room. It includes the total equipment for vocational and academic budgets, and the total installation cost broken down into academic, vocational and labor budgets.

Edmonton School District No. 7 Building Program 1980-1983

Item is a coil-bound plan detailing recommendations for school and core portable development for the 1980-1983 period. Core portables are structures attached to the main school building and are usually built in groups of 4, 6 or 8. The plan lists recommended projects, budgets, basis of budget development, the financial effects of the recommended projects, the effect of recommended construction in relation to district enrolment and capacity, and a ranking of the different projects into three priority levels.

Item is a handbook of the regulations to be followed by teachers and principals, which would implement Board Policy. An attached memorandum explains that each staff member should be in possession of the Administrative Regulations handbook.

Inspectors' Reports on Teachers 1924 and 1925

Item is a list of the teachers in each school. For each teacher, it lists the grade the teacher taught, the rating the teacher received from the school inspector for both 1924 and 1925, and the name of the inspector who evaluated the teacher.

Memorandum of Transmittal

Series consists of documents from the Superintendent of Schools for the Edmonton Public School Board Trustees. The memoranda provided information about schools, students, staff, buildings, departments, curriculum changes, grievances, press releases and meetings. Appendices are included, but not all are on file.

New Organization

Item is a list of schools. It includes junior-senior high schools, three-year senior high schools, intermediate schools, and elementary schools with intermediate units. The names of the staff members within each school are included. The item is the result of the district's newly organized junior and senior high classes following the new 6-3-3 grade divisions which began during the 1936-1937 school year.

Item is a handmade book by Mabel Dowling. It was likely completed in a Grade XII Art class in Strathcona (Old Scona) School. The book includes black and white photographs of Edmonton and illustrations cut out of another book. The book addresses Edmonton's past, present and future.

Item consists of staff directories. It lists the staff members' names, addresses and phone numbers. In addition to the teacher staff, it includes Custodial staff, Nurse, Secretary, Relieving Teacher, and the Counsellor. The school's hours of operation are noted as well.

Transfer and Admission Slips

Item consists of five booklets of Transfer Slips. The Transfer Slips list students transferring out of H. A. Gray to other schools. Each slip includes the date, the student's name, age, grade, address and the school to which the student is transferring. The number of absent days is included and, inconsistently, so is the student's new address.

Item is a notebook listing the date when students' cumulative cards were received or sent. Each entry includes the student's name, date the card was received or sent, and the school to which the student was going or from which the student came.

Item is a notebook recording punishments administered at H. A. Gray school. Each entry includes the date, student's name, age, grade, offence, punishment, and the initials of the person administering the punishment.

Citizenship, Commonwealth and Flag

Item consists of information to use during Commonwealth Day observances. Empire Day changed to Commonwealth Day in 1958. Included is information about the flag and a souvenir programme of the Official Flag Raising Ceremony from the visit of Governor General Georges Vanier to Edmonton Public Schools.

Item consists of four blank certificates. The first is for highest honours standing in the school. The second is for perfect attendance. The third is for Outstanding Progress in Pre-Vocational studies. The fourth is a Service Award Certificate.

Item consists of three guest books from the King Edward School Canadian Centennial Open House. Entries include guest names, addresses and remarks.

Item is a brief letter to parents of Junior High students with the H. A. Gray student handbook attached. Handbook is divided into the areas of staff directory, philosophy and goals of H. A. Gray School, student attendance, and progress reports.

Item is an Academic Honour Roll for King Edward Junior High School. It lists the names of honour students, grades VII, VIII and IX, for the school years 1973-74 to 1981-82. It is continued from item 84.KE.19.

Item is a booklet of transfer slips. These are the slips of students who left McQueen school and include the date, the student's name, address, age, grade, attendance during the present month, and the school to which the student is going.

King Edward Intermediate School Presents Rio Rico

Item is a photocopied programme of the comic operetta presented by the King Edward Intermediate School at the Garneau Auditorium. Miss L. Parnell was the director. The programme includes the cast of characters as well as advertisements from local businesses.
