Minute Book of Committee on School Management

Item is the minutes of Committee on School Management of Edmonton School District No. 7. The committee was also known as the Management Committee. Minutes address staffing and building issues and include complaints about Superintendent McCaig. Both Superintendents McCaig and McKee were on the Committee. Most minutes are signed by both the Secretary, W. D. Bradley, and the Chairman, S. A. G. Barnes.

Item is a notebook used to record substitute teachers at King Edward School. Each entry includes the date, the name of the substitute teacher, the name of the absent teacher, and the length of absence. Some entries include the reason for the absence. At the back of the notebook are supply lists, a list of students and their misdemeanors, and a seating plan. Pages are brittle and loose from binding.

The Edmonton - Highlands School District 2292 became Beverly School District 2292 in 1913. Prior to 1953, Beverly (Central) Schools consisted of 3 buildings: a 2-room school, later referred to as the Church building; a 4-room school, brick, used until 1955; a 6-room steel school, referred to as "H" and "tin" school. After 1953, this group became known as Central or Beverly Central.
Post-1953 schools included:
Beacon Heights est. 1953; Beverly Heights est. 1954; Lawton Jr. High est. 1957; R.J. Scott est. 1959; Abbott est. 1960.

Garneau Temporary School Construction

Item consists of correspondence and accounts pertaining to the construction of the Garneau Temporary School. Most of the correspondence is between the construction firm of O.J. Edinger and the School Board Building Commissioner.

Item is two files containing letters of application for position of Superintendent of Plant. It includes the job advertisement in the form of a newspaper clipping and outline of the qualifications and duties of both Superintendent of Plant and Chief Caretaker. Letter of application from successful candidate, R. L. Haskell, included.

Item pertains to religious instruction in schools and, specifically, Bible readings. The file includes the document Bible Readings in Edmonton Public Schools, Revised Copy. It also includes the Report of Committee Appointed to Select a List of Bible Readings. Item also contains inquiries from other school boards, parent concerns and evaluations by teachers. Included are letters from the Religious Tract Society and a copy of a report on the learning of the Ten Commandments in state schools in the British Empire.

Item is the term examination report for Bennett School. It lists the students, their ages, the grades they achieved in various subjects, and the teachers' recommendations. The name of the teacher for each grade is also included.

Item originated in Bennett School and consists of a general list of supplies to be handed out, a tally of supplies given to individual pupils in Grades II, III and IV in September 1915, and the names of the students who received primers in January 1915.

Sinking Fund Trustees Committee Minutes

Series consists of the minutes from the Sinking Fund Committee, made up of trustees of Edmonton Public Schools. The committee met for the purpose of purchasing and selling bonds and securities to build up the sinking fund and pay off the debenture debt. The committee ended on 07 Jan 1947 when the debenture debt was paid off.

Item consists of two identical copies of the Edmonton Technical High School day class prospectus. Descriptions of technical options offered are included, specifically, Household Arts, Art, Mechanical Drawing, Printing, Woodwork, Machine Shop, and Forge Shop. For students over 16, industrial courses could be taken in Art, Architectural Course, Forge Shop, Gas Engine, Household Arts, Dressmaking, Industrial Chemistry and Mineralogy, Machine Shop, Printing, and Woodwork.

The date the appointment was authorized, the class of certification held by the teacher, provisional or temporary appointment, the beginning and end dates of the appointment, the department or level of teaching to which the teacher was assigned, the salary, and whether or not the appointment was accepted.

High School and University Matriculation Examination Board Meetings

Item contains reports of the Committee on Special Cases. These reports include discussion of whether or not individuals will be allowed to advance to the next grade, whether or not individuals should be granted matriculation, the transferability of credit from other school districts and whether or not individuals may write an exam. Discussion is also given in the reports to the admission of special cases to Normal School. The grade levels evident in the reports are grades VIII-XII. The item also includes a list of examination subjects, correspondence about examination applications, analysis of examination results and the minutes of the High School and University Matriculation Examination Board meetings. File maintained by Superintendent of Schools.

Item is a booklet of the By-Laws and Rules of Order for the Edmonton Public School Board. The booklet was printed by the Technical High School Press.

Item is Cecil Waggott’s Grade V Monthly Report Card from Queen’s Avenue School. Monthly report cards were given to pupils in all classes above Grade II and were to be signed by parents and returned within two days of receipt. Subject names, grades, attendance and standing in class are included.
