Administration Files : Vacation School

Item pertains to the Vacation School, a program at Victoria High School to prepare grade XI students for supplemental examinations. Examinations were conducted by the Department of Education and the University of Alberta. The Vacation School was aimed at students who failed their June examinations but others took the summer courses as well. File includes correspondence, planning information and reports from teachers.

Willis, Victoria High, regarding the comparison of student I.Q.'s within the city High Schools. Also included is a sample test.

Included are supply costs, costs for erecting stages with written and sketched plans and correspondence from the Alberta Dramatic League. Intermediate and High Schools offering Dramatics in 1937 are listed with names of the Dramatics teachers. These are McKay Avenue, King Edward, Westmount, Strathcona, McCauley, Victoria, Eastwood, Spruce Avenue, Highlands, Riverdale, Normal Practice, Garneau and H.A. Gray.

Item contains the programme for the Official Opening of Victoria Composite High School, which describes the school. It also contains a letter to the Canadian Education Association from the Superintendent of Schools about both the opening of Victoria School and educating displaced persons (children).

Interview with Ed McDougall

Item is a recorded interview with Ed McDougall about school life in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He identifies photographs of school mates and teachers. He mentions, but does not describe, the schools he attended namely Edmonton School, McKay Avenue School, Queen's Avenue School, and Victoria School. He mentions teachers, Miss Chegwin, Miss Barker and Mr. Welbourne. He describes his homes in Edmonton. Interviewer is M. A. Kostek. On verso is an accidental recording of daily activity in Alma McKay’s office ca. 1984. Mike Kostek’s voice can be heard.

4-6 Divided School Year Evaluation

Item is a report which presents surveys and conclusions pertaining to the high school year being divided into four and six month semesters. Prior to the evaluations, the four and six month semester system was tried in Bonnie Doon, Harry Ainlay and Victoria Composite High Schools.

Item is a newsprint publication containing photographs of students and teachers learning, discovering, creating and teaching. It was created by the Instructional Media Centre and printed by the students of the graphic arts department at Victoria Composite High School.

Item is a yearbook for the T. D. Baker High School which was housed in Victoria High School from 1972-73 to 1975-76. In 1975-76 T. D. Baker High School was disbanded and integrated into Victoria High School trades.
