Cash-Book No. 1 : Edmonton Protestant Public School No.7

Item is an account book showing money coming in (cash) and going out (contra). It lists ratepayers, the amount of taxes collected, expenditures and amounts carried over. The book was maintained by the Secretary-Treasurer and each page is initialed. It is organized chronologically by year and month.

Assessment Roll : Edmonton Protestant School District

Item is the property tax assessment roll for Edmonton. Each entry includes the name of the property occupant and their religion, sex, age, occupation and place of residence; the name of owner and their religion, sex, age, occupation and place of residence; and the number of lots taxable denoted by district, block, township and range. Information was used to collect taxes, which funded the school district. The official name of the district was Edmonton Protestant Public School District No. 7.

Item is a newspaper. Some international and national items are included but it is mainly concerned with local news. Of note is an article stating that J. St. G. Jellett has retired from the store business at Clover Bar. St. George Jellett was the School Board Secretary-Treasurer 1893-1908.

Item is a newspaper covering local news, with some international and national items. Three stories are of note. The first is the Edmonton School closing for the summer on May 31st so the teacher, Mr. Martin, could meet his arriving family in Calgary. Second, is the voting on the creation of East Edmonton School District. Third, is the promotion examinations held in the public school on May 26, 27. The names of the children are included as are the arithmetic examination questions for standards four and five.

Correspondence Book : Edmonton Protestant Public School No. 7

Item contains correspondence written and maintained by the Secretary-Treasurer for the Board of Trustees. C.F. Strang and St. George Jellett were the Secretary-Treasurers at this time. Included are letters to the Board of Education, teachers, school inspectors and the Imperial Bank. Subjects include the purchasing of supplies, complaints about night students, debentures received, the hiring of staff, the purchasing of a school site and teacher agreements.

Strathcona School District No. 216 Contracts

Item is a group of contracts including By-Laws regarding the borrowing of money, sale of land contracts, contracts with contractors and architects. Item is not complete. Only the Duggan Street School and Strathcona Collegiate Institute are mentioned although the transfer of land from J. Alexander Cameron Rutherford is included.

Item is the book used to record the minutes of the Edmonton Public School Board meetings. The minutes were signed by the Secretary and the Chairman. Of note, the School Board’s name change is recorded on 14 Mar 1907, p. 106-107.

Each entry in the Punishment Book includes the date, the student's name, the misdemeanor, the teacher, and the punishment issued. The Requisition Book is a list of items requested by teachers. The Library List is a list of books. pages worn and loose from binding. Reference copy available for consultation. Dates for Requisition Book are 1908-1909 - 1911-1912. Date for Library List unknown.

Item contains correspondence written and maintained by A.T. Mode, Secretary-Treasurer of Strathcona School District No. 216. Subjects addressed include plans for the new Collegiate Institute, hiring teachers, tenders, debentures, re-opening date of school, letters to papers regarding advertisements, paying for plumbing and piano tuning, auditing books, requesting catalogues, a loan from the bank and leasing a school to the University of Alberta. Letters are numbered and an alphabetical index is included.

Item pertains to those paying property taxes to West Edmonton School District No. 2320. For each ratepayer it lists name of ratepayer, post office address, description of property, number of lots, amount and date of payment.

Heating and Ventilation Specifications

Item consists of Heating and Ventilating Specs for two schools not yet built. One school would be located on Block 7, 8 (HBR), which was bordered by 107 and 108 Streets, the Legislature and Jasper Avenue. The second would be located on one of the Hudsons Bay Additions.
