The fonds consists of minutes, correspondence and annual reports of the Board of Trustees of Edmonton School Division and committees of the Board; student records; blueprints, plans and correspondence related to purchasing, construction, maintenance and renovation of school buildings; personnel files including employee contract and salary records; promotional and public relations material; curricula and teaching material; financial records, including assessment rolls from 1885 onward; and school planning documentation. Also includes administrative files and bulletins from the office of the Superintendent of Schools; records for individual schools, including staff meeting minutes, financial records, student government records, and material related to sports and club activities.

History of Name Change(s):
Edmonton Public Schools was established in 1885 by the Northwest Territories Council. At the time, it was called Edmonton Protestant Public School District #7. On February 26, 1907, it was announced that the name would change to Edmonton School District No. 7 of the North-West Territories. The common-use name "Edmonton Public Schools" was first used in the 1955 Annual Report. In August 2019, the name was changed from Edmonton School District No. 7 to Edmonton School Division.
